Homicide Investigation

 

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Saturday, September 28, 2024.

The victim will be identified upon notification to the next of kin.

At approximately 9:37 p.m., West Precinct Offices responded to two ShotSpotter notifications. The first notification registered approximately five rounds of gunfire, and the second registered approximately 12 rounds of gunfire.

When officers arrived on the scene, they observed an adult male victim in the roadway, lying unresponsive and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire Rescue Services arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

The preliminary investigation suggests that the victim was involved in a verbal altercation earlier this evening with the suspect at a separate location. The verbal dispute continued to the incident location. Shots were fired, fatally wounding the victim. The suspect left the scene.

 There is no one in custody.

This is Birmingham’s 117th murder investigation of 2024 with 8 justifiable death investigations.

 The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations in the total homicide investigations counts.
