Arrest Made in Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports an arrest has been made in the murder of Louis Bryant. Mr. Bryant was murdered on Thursday, April 1, 2021.

The suspect has been identified as:

Jasmine Drake, (29), B/F, of Birmingham, Alabama.

Additional information obtained during the investigation indicates the incident occurred in the presence of juveniles under the age of 14 who were related to the victim.

Detectives presented information gathered on the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office for review. Detectives obtained a Capital Murder warrant for the arrest of Jasmine Drake.

Drake will be held in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail with no bond.

Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Thursday morning, April 1, 2021.

The victim has been identified as Louis Bryant, (44), b/m, of Birmingham, Alabama.

Just before 4:30 a.m., Birmingham Police Officers responded to a call of a person shot at 1516 Vanderbilt Road. Officers arrived and was alerted of a person inside the residence who sustained a gunshot wound. Officers observed the male laying on the floor unresponsive. Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and performed lifesaving measures; however, the victim succumb to his injuries.

The investigation indicates a domestic related altercation occurred prior to Bryant being shot. The suspect was taken into custody pending further investigation. Updates will be provided as this case develops.

This is Birmingham’s 22nd murder investigation of 2021 with 1 justifiable death investigation. The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime

Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations into the total homicide investigations counts.
