Reclassification-Justifiable Death Ruling

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives have received a ruling in connection to the homicide investigation of Kadarius Kyneard. The incident occurred on Saturday, July 10, 2021.

Investigators presented the information gathered to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office for review. Following the assessment, the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office ruled the actions justifiable. This investigation is reclassified as a Justified Death Investigation.

The Birmingham Police Department has 63 murders thus far in 2021 and 7 justifiable death investigations.

The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations into the total homicide investigations counts.

**The information is based on a preliminary and ongoing investigation, which continues to evolve as investigators interview witnesses, review physical and electronic records, and analyze forensic evidence. The Department’s understanding of the facts and circumstances may change as additional evidence is collected and analyzed**

Homicide Investigation Update

The Birmingham Police Department reports the Jefferson County Coroner Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victim of a recent homicide. The incident occurred on Saturday, July 10, 2021 in the 4400 block of Willard Avenue.

The victim has been identified as Kadarius Khalil Kyneard, (23), b/m, of Birmingham, Alabama.

Homicide Investigation
(Media Release 165)

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Saturday July 10, 2021.

The victim’s identity will be released upon notification of next of kin.

At approximately 08:09 p.m., the Birmingham 911 Communication Division received calls of multiple shots fired in the 4400 block of Willard Ave. West precinct officers responded to the scene and discovered the victim lying in the street suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and the victim was pronounced deceased. Two additional wounded victims arrived at Fire Station 25 and was transported to UAB with non-life-threatening injuries.

The preliminary investigation indicates there was gunfire was exchanged during this incident. There are no suspects in custody.
