Chief Orlando R. Wilson

In February 2018, Birmingham Mayor Randall L. Woodfin appointed Birmingham Police Department veteran Orlando Wilson as Birmingham Police Chief while the city conducted a national search for a permanent police chief. Chief Wilson started on Feb. 19, 2018.

Chief Wilson served the police department for 30 years before retiring as a captain in 2017. Chief Wilson served in various roles while with the police department, including commander of SWAT. Now that Chief Wilson has returned to the police department, he looks forward to “Putting People First” as he and the department work to address crime.

A Birmingham native, Wilson studied biology and chemistry at UAB. He’s also served in the U.S. Army, the Army National Guard and the Army Reserve.
