Chief Smith joins statewide PSA on domestic abuse

Chief Patrick D. Smith of the Birmingham Police Department has been vocal about domestic abuse and the toll it has taken on Birmingham this year, especially amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

He recently joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Northern District of Alabama to release a public service announcement regarding domestic abuse.

The PSA begins with eye-opening information from Chief Smith.

“Nearly 100 domestic assaults are reported to law enforcement in Central Alabama with many more occurring in quiet, hushed terror,” Chief Smith said.

Representatives of several other agencies across the state also join in the PSA, which concludes with information regarding resources for victims.
