Deputy Chief Jeffrey Brown – Investigative Bureau

Jeffrey J. Brown is a 22-year veteran of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), serving most recently, prior to his retirement, as the Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC) of the Birmingham Field Office. Jeff led the Criminal and Administrative branch of the field office leading special agents, intelligence analysts, professional support staff and task force officers. Jeff also led several of the critical incident response groups to include, SWAT, Evidence Response Team, Crisis Management, Crisis Negotiators, Tactical Operations Center and the Regional Computer Forensics Lab. Jeff had leadership responsibility for four Resident Agencies of the FBI located through out central and northern Alabama.

Jeff started his FBI career as a Special Agent in the St. Louis Field Office and later served as a Supervisory Special Agent in the Detroit Field Office, a Unit Chief in the Counterterrorism Division in Washington, DC, the Violent Crimes Task Force Coordinator in Michigan and the Senior Special Agent in Charge in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He also served as a SWAT operator and FBI Adjunct instructor.

Jeff has served in leadership roles to support numerous high-profile investigations and special events during his career to include the 2022 World Games in Birmingham. He was also selected to lead interagency teams conducting critical threat missions overseas during the global war on terrorism. Prior to his FBI tenure, Jeff served as a Sheriff’s Deputy, Police Officer and Detective in Michigan and Arizona for 10.5 years.

After his retirement from the FBI, Jeff was selected to be the Regional Security Advisor for Secure Community Network for the Birmingham Jewish Federation in Alabama.

Jeff holds a bachelor’s degree in social science/business from Concordia University-Wisconsin, a master’s degree in educational leadership from Northern Arizona University and an MBA from the University of Michigan. He is the recipient of several commendations and two United States Attorney awards for leading criminal investigations.
