Lieutenant Marion Benson

Lieutenant Marion Benson has over 35 years of Law Enforcement experience with the City of Birmingham Police Department.

Lieutenant Marion Benson graduated from the Police Academy in 1988 and was assigned to the East Precinct. She was assigned to Gate City Housing Projects, East Lake, and the East Precinct Desk, where she was responsible for the weekly stats. She held assignments with Youth Services, where she taught G.R.E.AT., was a member of the G.R.E.A.T. National Training Team, was an Explorer Advisor, and was a School Resource Officer.

Lieutenant Marion Benson was promoted to Sergeant on August 24, 2013, and was assigned to the North Precinct Evening Shift. In 2018, Lt. Benson was transferred to Crime Against Property, where they supervised Auto Theft, Burglary, and the Financial Crimes Division.

On July 20, 2019, Lt. Benson was promoted to Lieutenant and was assigned to East Precinct as the Charlie-shift Commander, South Precinct as Alpha Shift Commander, Interim Manager of the Communication Division, and Alpha Shift Commander at North Precinct.

Lt. Benson graduated from Fultondale High School and resided in Jefferson County. She is affiliated with New Hope Missionary Baptist Church – Robinwood, Fraternal Order of Police, Metropolitan Criminal Justice Executive Association, Children of Slain Police Officers, and International Homicide Investigators Association. Lieutenant Marion Benson is currently assigned to Crime Against Persons as Commander of the Homicide, Robbery, and Felony Assault Units. She enjoys spending quality time with her loving family, which consists of two daughters, two sons, one -son-in-law, and one- daughter-in-law.
