Noose Found in Kelly Ingram Park

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting an investigation after multiple noose ropes were observed in Kelly Ingram Park.

At approximately 10:27 a.m., Officers from the North Precinct responded to Kelly Ingram Park in response to a sighting of multiple noose ropes hanging from trees. Officers arrived and observed multiple noose ropes along with expressive art canvasses and philosophical quotes.

The preliminary investigation suggest various artist frequented Kelly Ingram Park on Sunday June 14, 2020. Multiple art installations were set up to display art for the observance of Juneteenth to call attention to the racial climate of the nation in wake of the death of George Floyd. It appears this artistic expression was not displayed for a malicious purpose or to incite fear in the community. At the conclusion of the art expo, this artist failed to remove the display. This investigation is ongoing. There have not been any arrest made relating to this incident.
