Homicide Investigation
The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Saturday May 15, 2021.
The victim has been identified as Albert Griffin, (21), b/m, of Birmingham, Alabama.
At approximately 11:15 a.m., officers from the West Precinct responded to 2326 Avenue S Ensley on a call of a person shot. Upon arrival officers were informed the victim was transported from the scene to a local area hospital by personal vehicle. Shortly after, the Birmingham Police Department was notified the victim succumb to his injuries at the hospital.
The preliminary investigation indicate the victim, Albert Griffin was inside his apartment when the suspect entered into the bedroom and shot Griffin. It appears the suspect that murdered Griffin was an acquaintance. The suspect fled the scene prior to officers arrival. There are no suspect(s) in custody. Updates will be provided as this case develops.

The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations into the total homicide investigations counts.
