The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a homicide investigation. The homicide occurred on Sunday January 19, 2020, at approximately 5:25 p.m.
The deceased will be identified upon notification of next of kin.
Officers from the East Precinct responded to a call of a person shot at 3901 Pinson Valley Parkway. Upon arrival officers discovered a person suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and transported the victim to UAB hospital where he was treated for his injuries and released.
Upon further investigation detectives received information that a verbal altercation ensued between two people which lead to shots being fired. One of the shooters fled into a wooded area nearby. BPD K-9 unit responded to the scene and discovered a person unresponsive in the wooded area. He was pronounced deceased on the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue along with Jefferson County Coroner.
