The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on May 22, 2021.
The victim has been identified as:
Sheila Chantel Johnson, (27), B/F, of Birmingham, Alabama.
At approximately 9:30 p.m., East Precinct officers were dispatched to 8300 1st Avenue North on report of multiple people shot. Officers arrived on the scene and discovered three people inside of a vehicle suffering from gunshot wound injuries. The victim was seated in the front seat passenger seat when she was struck by gunfire.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue transported the victim to UAB Hospital with life -threatening injuries.
On July 12, 2021, the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office notified the BPD Homicide Unit that the victim succumbed to her injuries.
The preliminary investigation suggests the motive in this case is still unclear.
