Arrest Made in the Richard Allen Judkins Homicide
Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives have obtained a warrant for an arrest in connection to the murder of Richard Allen Judkins. He was shot and killed on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at 121 Roebuck Plaza Drive.

The suspect has been identified as:

Quajae Dasion Ellis Ware, (22), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

On Sunday, July 21, 2024, Birmingham Police Detectives presented case information to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. After an assessment of the information, detectives obtained a warrant for Murder.

Quajae Dasion Ellis Ware is in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail, and he has No Bond.

Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Saturday, July 20, 2024.

The victim has been identified as:
Richard Allen Judkins, (54), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

At approximately 4:45 PM, a citizen arrived at East Precinct and stated to a patrol sergeant that he had shot someone at 121 Roebuck Plaza Drive (Murphy USA gas station). Officers immediately responded to the location.

When officers arrived on the scene and entered the business, they observed an adult male victim lying on the floor, unresponsive and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Services arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

The preliminary investigation suggests a physical altercation took place inside the business between the suspect and the victim. The suspect shot the victim and quickly turned himself into police custody.

This is Birmingham’s 83rd murder investigation of 2024 with 8 justifiable death investigations.
