The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Sunday, August 8, 2021.
The victim will be identified upon notification to the next of kin.
At approximately 6:10 a.m., North Precinct officers responded to 100 3rd Avenue North (Empire Gentleman’s Club) on report of a person shot. Officers arrived on the scene and learned Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel had transported a male gunshot
wound victim to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Birmingham 911 Communications Division notified officers that the victim succumbed to his injuries while at UAB Hospital.
The preliminary investigation suggests the victim and an unknown suspect were involved in a verbal argument at the location when the suspect pulled out a handgun and fired multiple rounds at the victim ultimately striking him. The suspect then fled the scene.

This is Birmingham’s 64th homicide investigation of 2021 with 7 justifiable death investigations. The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations into the total homicide investigations counts.
