Homicide Investigation
The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Tuesday, August 20, 2024.
The victim has been identified as:
D’Anthony Jones, (22), B/M of Birmingham, Alabama.
At approximately 1:30 a.m., South Precinct officers responded to UAB Hospital on a call of a Person Shot who arrived at the ER by a private vehicle.
South Precinct officers arrived at the location and began to investigate the shooting incident.
The victim was pronounced deceased by UAB medical staff at 1:39 a.m.
The preliminary investigation suggests the victim and a friend were in the 2100 Block of Avenue I, Ensley when the shooting occurred around 1:00 a.m. The victim was a passenger inside the vehicle when an unknown suspect fired multiple shots into the vehicle, fatally wounding the victim, and left the scene in a vehicle. The second occupant was not injured.
The victim was targeted.
There is no one in custody.
