Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Tuesday, August 20, 2024.

The victim has not been identified.

At approximately 2:10 p.m., East Precinct officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1300 Block of 5th Place Northwest on report of Human Remains Found.

Officers arrived at the residence and then learned the homeowner discovered human remains on his property, possibly brought on his property by his dogs.

The Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Officer took custody of the victim’s remains; the Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office performed an autopsy that revealed the victim was shot.
