Arrest Made in the 2017 Vergil Cook Cold Case Homicide Investigation
The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives have obtained a warrant for an arrest in connection to the murder of Vergil Cook. She was found stabbed to death on Friday, July 21, 2017, in the 1300 Block of 21st Street North.
The suspect has been identified as:
Timothy Stone, (62), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.
On Friday, July 21, 2017, at around 11:00 p.m., North Precinct officers discovered 57-year-old Vergil Cook stabbed to death in her apartment. Stone was identified as a person of interest; however, he was never charged. The victim and suspect were a couple and also.
A witness in the case recently came forward and assisted our Cold Case Unit detectives.
On Tuesday, August 20, 2024, Birmingham Police Detectives presented case information to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. After an assessment of the information, detectives obtained a warrant for Murder on Timothy Stone.
Timothy Stone was already in the Jefferson County Jail on unrelated violent charges.
