Homicide Investigation
The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Saturday, August 24, 2024.
The victim is believed to be an adult Hispanic male.
At around 2:40 a.m., West Precinct officers were dispatched to a ShotSpotter alert in the 1100 Block of 3rd Avenue West.
Officers arrived on the scene when they observed the victim lying unresponsive in the Exxon gas station’s parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived and pronounced the victim deceased.
The preliminary investigation suggests ShotSpotter detected multiple rounds fired in the 1100 Block of 3rd Avenue West.
The Exxon Gas Station was closed during this incident; however, El Centenario Nightclub (1118 3rd Avenue West) across the street was open.
Detectives will canvas the area.
