Media Release 204- Student Terrorist Threat Arrest

BPD Detectives Arrest 14-Year-Old for Making Terrorist Threat towards Two Birmingham Schools

On Tuesday, September 10, 2024, BPD School Resources Officers (SRO) were alerted of a social media threat to carry out a shooting at Huffman Middle & High School.

BPD SRO’s quickly notified BPD Felony Assault detectives.

BPD’s Narcotics Unit carried out a search warrant at a residence in East Birmingham. The search warrant aided detectives in their investigation.

BPD SROs, BPD Felony Assault & Narcotics detectives, BPD’s Intelligence Unit, the Alabama Fusion Center, and the FBI identified a possible suspect.

The suspect has been identified as:

14-year-old male Huffman High School student.

BPD SROs took the suspect into custody at Huffman High School. BPD Felony Assault detectives interviewed the suspect in the presence of his parents. During the interview, the suspect confessed to making the online threats.

BPD SROs transported the suspect to the Jefferson County Youth Detention Center where he was taken in for Making a Terrorist Threat 1st Degree.

The Birmingham Police Department will continuously demonstrate that terrorist threats made towards our students will be investigated using all available resources.
