Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Wednesday, September 18, 2024.

The victim will be identified upon notification to the next of kin.

At approximately 5:05 p.m., West Precinct Officers responded to a call of a Person Down in the 1700 Block of Laurel Avenue SW.

When officers arrived on the scene, they observed an adult male victim, lying unresponsive in the roadway suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Services arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

The preliminary investigation suggests that the victim was involved in a verbal altercation with an unknown suspect that led to shots being fired and fatally wounding the victim. The suspect left the scene before officers arrived.

Through further investigation, detectives determined that a second victim was also wounded by gunfire at the incident location. The second victim was transported to UAB Hospital by private vehicle. The victim’s injuries are life-threatening.
