Quadruple Homicide Investigation / Mass Shooting
The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a quadruple homicide investigation following a mass shooting in the Five Points South Entertainment District. The incident occurred on Saturday, September 21, 2024.
Three victims have been identified as:
- Anitra Holloman, (21), B/F, of Bessemer, Alabama.
- Tahj Booker, (27), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.
- Carlos McCain, (27), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.
- Roderick Patterson Jr. (26), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.
Just after 11 p.m. Central Standard Time (CST), South Precinct officers were dispatched to a call of Multiple Shots fired in the 2000 Block of Magnolia Avenue South, which is in the Five Points South Entertainment District.
Officers arrived on the scene when they observed Anitra Holloman, Tahj Booker, and Carlos McCain lying unresponsive on a sidewalk suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Officers then located additional victims in the area who were shot.
Also, gunshot victims began arriving at local area hospitals.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived and pronounced Anitra Holloman, Tahj Booker, and Carlos McCain deceased on the scene (sidewalk).
UAB Hospital staff pronounced 1 adult male gunshot victim deceased at UAB Hospital.
As of Sunday, September 22, 2024, at 6 p.m. (CST), there are a total of 21 gunshot victims.
4 deceased victims (3 adult males & 1 adult female).
17 victims (male and female) with injuries ranging from non-life-threatening to life-threatening.
The preliminary investigation has revealed the following, we believe multiple suspects fired upon a large group of people who were outside in a public area in the 2000 Block of Magnolia Avenue South. The shooters are believed to have used machine gun converter devices.
Detectives believe the shooting was not random and stemmed from an isolated incident where multiple victims were caught in the crossfire.
Detectives are working to determine who was the intended target(s) of the shooting.
There is no one in custody.
The Birmingham Police Department is partnering with the ATF and FBI in this investigation.
