The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Friday night, in the 200 block of 4th Court West in the Elyton Village Housing Community.
The victim has been identified as Leroy Earl Sumlin, (45), b/m, of Birmingham, Alabama.
At approximately 10:27 p.m. officers from the North Precinct responded to the location on a call of a person shot. Officers arrived to discover a male in the drivers seat of a vehicle unresponsive. The victim sustained a gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased by Birmingham Fire and Rescue.
The preliminary investigation indicate the victim was shot while inside of his vehicle and the car rolled into the building. Additional details of occurrences that lead to this incident are limited. No arrest has been made in this investigation.
