Homicide Investigation
The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Wednesday, October 7, 2020. The victim has been identified as Rodriguez Deonte Jones, (25), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama. At approximately 12:48 a.m., officers from West Precinct responded to a vehicle fire located near Woodward Park in the 1300 block of McMillon Avenue Southwest.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue extinguished the fire and found a severely burned body in the passenger seat of the vehicle. Details are limited in this investigation. Detectives have not established a motive. Updates will be provided as information comes available. If there is anyone who has information pertaining to the case, please contact the B.P.D. This is Birmingham’s 79th homicide investigation of 2020 and 14 justifiable death investigations and 1 non-criminal homicide (accidental shooting).
The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death
investigations into the total homicide investigations counts.
