Homicide Investigation

 The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a homicide investigation that occurred  in the 2400 block of 4th Avenue South.

The victim has been identified as Tyrese Jamal Vault, (27) b/m of Birmingham, Alabama.

At approximately 1:19 a.m. Officers from the South Precinct responded to the scene on a call of a person shot. Officers arrived and discovered the victim, Tyrese Vault in the passenger seat of a vehicle wounded by gunfire. The victim was pronounced deceased by Birmingham Fire and Rescue. An additional person showed up to a local area hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg. It was determined the victim was shot at the same location.

 The preliminary investigation suggest the victim was sitting in the passenger seat of a  parked vehicle when the suspect(s) fired several shots fatally wounding the victim. No arrest has been made in this homicide. Detectives have not established a clear motive in this investigation. The area was well populated with patrons of a nearby night club.

 This is Birmingham’s 71st murder investigation of 2021 with 12 justifiable death investigations. The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations into the total homicide investigations counts.

The Department’s understanding of the facts and circumstances may change as additional evidence is collected and analyzed**
