Arrest Made in the Maria Juan Homicide Investigation
The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives have obtained an arrest warrant in connection to the of homicide investigation of Maria Juan. The investigation began on Friday, September 20, 2024.
The suspect has been identified as:
Tremayne King, (34), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.
Birmingham Police Detectives presented case information to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. After an assessment of the information, detectives obtained a warrant for Murder on Tremayne King.
Tremayne King is in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail where he is being held with No Bond.

Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Friday, September 20, 2024.
The victim has been identified as:
Maria Juan, (27), H/F, of Birmingham, Alabama.
BPD SVU detectives launched a Missing Person investigation for Maria Juan earlier. At around 3:30 p.m., South Precinct officers received a Welfare Check call at the Hillside apartment complex at 1521 17th Street South.
Officers arrived at the complex when they entered an apartment and then observed Maria Juan unresponsive.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived and pronounced the victim deceased.
The Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy on the victim to determine the manner and cause of death.
Detectives and officers suspect foul play is involved.
Family members and friends provided officers with a person of interest in this homicide investigation. The person of interest is the victim’s former romantic partner.
North Precinct officers later took the adult male person of interest into custody in Downtown Birmingham.
BPD Homicide detectives interviewed him at BPD Headquarters; detectives placed him on a 48-Hour Felony Extension for Murder at the Birmingham City Jail.
