Unclassified Death Investigation
The Birmingham Police Department is conducting an unclassified death investigation. The incident occurred on Thursday, September 26, 2024.
The victim has not been identified.
At approximately 8:15 a.m., a community member walking near a wooded area in the 3000 Block of Jefferson State Parkway observed a decomposed body. The community member flagged down a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputy who radioed for assistance from the Birmingham Police Department.
East Precinct officers arrived on the scene and then observed a decomposed body in the woods.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived and pronounced the victim deceased.
The preliminary investigation suggests foul play may be involved.
The Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy on the victim to determine the Cause and Manner of death.
