Double Homicide Investigation Update

The Birmingham Police Department reports the victims have been identified in the homicide that occurred at 445 29th Street Ensley. The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 13, 2020.

The victims have been identified as:

Joseph Scott Norris, (40), W/M, of Birmingham, Alabama

Jacqueline Sims Newsome, (39), W/F, of Birmingham, Alabama.

No arrest has been made in connection to this homicide. If there is anyone who has information pertaining to the case, please contact the B.P.D. Homicide Unit @ 205-2541764 or Crime Stoppers @ 205-254-7777. Updates will be provided as information comes available.

This is Birmingham’s 81st and 82nd homicide investigation of 2020 and 14 justifiable death investigations and 1 non-criminal homicide (accidental shooting). The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations into the total homicide investigations counts.

Double Homicide Investigation
(Media Release 224)

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a double homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 13, 2020.

The victims will be identified upon notification of next of kin.

At approximately 11:41 p.m., officers from West Precinct responded to a residence in the 400 block of 29th Street Ensley on reports of two people found deceased. Officers arrived and observed two victim lying in a bedroom unresponsive. Both victims suffered from apparent gunshot wounds. Jefferson County Coroner along with Birmingham Fire and rescue responded to the scene and pronounced both victims deceased.

The preliminary investigation indicates the landlord of residence was notified that a door was open at the property. The landlord went to check on the property and discovered both victims inside deceased. The victims were last heard from earlier during the day on Tuesday, October 13, 2020. No arrest has been made in connection to this homicide. Detectives have not established a clear motive.
