Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Friday, October 11, 2024.

The victim has been identified as:

Paul Devaried Terry Jr, (20), B/M, of Ozark, Alabama.

At approximately 12:19 p.m., East Precinct officers responded to a call of a Person Shot in the 8200 Block of 4th Avenue N, the East Lake community.

When officers arrived on the scene, they were notified that the victim had run to a shed in the 300 Block of 83rd Street N.

Officers entered the shed and observed the victim inside, lying unresponsive and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue services arrive on the scene and pronounce the victim deceased.

The preliminary investigation suggests that the victim came to a residence in the 8200 block of 4th Ave., North. While at the residence a verbal altercation occurred between the victim and the suspect possibly outside of the residence. During the verbal dispute, the suspect shot the victim. The victim ran from the location to the 300 Block of 83rd Street N, where he collapsed inside the shed.

 This is Birmingham’s 119th murder investigation of 2024 with 9 justifiable death investigations.

 The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations in the total homicide investigations counts.
