Homicide Investigation

 The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Thursday morning, September 30, 2021.

The victim will be identified upon notification of next of kin.

 Just after 8:30 a.m., officers responded to 4705 Kingston Avenue on a call of a person down. The call came in from a concerned community member as the victim could be seen on the floor through a window. Officers arrived to find a male victim on the floor inside of the residence unresponsive. Upon further investigation it was determined the victim sustained a gunshot wound which proved to be fatal. The victim was pronounced deceased by the Jefferson County Coroner.

Details are limited at this stage of the investigation. There are no suspects in custody. Investigators are enlisting the assistance of the public.

This is Birmingham’s 76th murder investigation of 2021 and 12 justifiable death investigations. The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations into the total homicide investigations counts.    

**The information is based on a preliminary and ongoing investigation, which continues to evolve as investigators interview witnesses, review physical and electronic records, and analyze forensic evidence. The Department’s understanding of the facts and circumstances may change as additional evidence collected and analyzed**
