Arrest Made in the Amauria Caffey Homicide Investigation
The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives have obtained warrants for an arrest in connection to the murder of Amauria Caffey. He was shot and killed on Monday, November 4, 2024, in the 1600 Block of 5th Street North.
The suspect has been identified as:
Malik Farris, (21), B/M, of Trussville, Alabama.
The preliminary investigation has revealed the shooting stemmed from an altercation earlier that day involving the victim’s family member and a separate person.
Birmingham Police Detectives presented case information to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. After an assessment of the information, detectives obtained warrants for Murder, Theft of Property 1st Degree, and Criminal Mischief 1st Degree.
The theft and criminal mischief charge stem from actions by the suspect after the shooting involving the victim’s property.
The suspect is in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail after turning himself in to police custody; he has No Bond.

Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Monday, November 4, 2024.
The victim has been identified as:
Amauria Caffey, (20), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.
At approximately 12:12 p.m., North Precinct officers were responding to a call of multiple shots fired in the 1600 Block of 5th Street North. While en route, the call was updated to a Person Shot.
When officers arrived on the scene, they observed an adult male victim on the front porch of a residence, lying unresponsive and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue Services arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
The preliminary investigation suggests that a verbal argument occurred at the residence. Moments later gunshots were fired fatally wounding the victim.
There is no one in custody.
