Officer Involved Shooting Investigation
The Birmingham Police Department reports that a suspect has been charged in connection with an officer involved shooting investigation. The incident occurred on Friday, September 20, 2019.
At approximately 9:21 p.m., officers from the East Precinct responded to the area of Gate City and the Harris Homes Housing community to investigate a Shot Spotter call. Upon arrival, officers located shell casings believed to be related to the shooting. While continuing to search the area, officers heard additional gunshots in their area. Officers soon after located the subject and pursued him from the railroad tracks to a wooded area. Additional personnel including K-9 and Star One helicopter personnel aided in the search for the suspect. Officers in Star One located the suspect and directed K-9 officers to the suspect’s location where he was taken into custody. There were no injuries to the officers.
The suspect has been identified as:
Demetrius Walker, B/M, 28 of Birmingham, Alabama. Three (3) Attempted Murder warrants have been obtained against the suspect. The suspect is in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail.
