Homicide Investigation Update

The Birmingham Police Department reports the Jefferson County Coroner has identified the victim in the homicide that occurred on Monday, December 1, 2020.

The victim has been identified as Nathan Chandler Wooten, (20), b/m, of Birmingham, Alabama.

This is Birmingham’s 97th homicide investigation of 2020 with 13 justifiable death investigations and 1 non-criminal homicide (accidental shooting). The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations into the total homicide investigations counts.

 

Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Monday, December 1, 2020.
At approximately 11:00 a.m., Birmingham Police Department responded to the 3500 block of Avenue P on a call of a person shot. Officers from West Precinct responded and found a male victim lying in the street suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded to the location and the victim
was transported UAB Hospital where he succumb to his injuries.

There is limited information available in the early stages of this investigation. Detectives are in the process of identifying witnesses and gathering evidence. There are no suspect(s) in custody nor has a motive been established.
