Homicide Investigation
The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Sunday, November 24, 2024.
The victim has been identified as:
Dontrell Gooden, (20), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.
On Saturday, November 23, 2024, the Birmingham Police Department launched a Critical Missing Person Investigation for Dontrell Gooden after he was last seen on Friday, November 22, 2024, at around 11:30 p.m. in a vehicle.
Officers searched for him on Saturday and Sunday. On Sunday, November 24, 2024, at around 7:30 p.m., East Precinct officers discovered Dontrell’s vehicle in the Brummit Heights neighborhood. Officers located the vehicle near Spruce Avenue @ Cunningham Street.
Upon further investigation of the vehicle, officers observed Dontrell Gooden unresponsive inside the vehicle. He appeared to have been shot.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived and pronounced him deceased.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office arrived on the scene. The Coroner’s Office positively identified the victim as Dontrell Gooden.
There is no one in custody.
