BPD and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Launch Operation Close Out

The Birmingham Police Department and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office launch Operation Closeout beginning on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, and concluding on December 31, 2024.

What is Operation Close Out?

Operation Close Out is a joint public safety campaign to reduce violent and property crimes during the holiday season. Historical data has shown these crimes increase during the holiday season. Operation Close Out is our way to proactively get in front of this horrible trend. BPD will partner with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office to strengthen personnel and resources.

How will Operation Close Out be Carried Out?

Operation Close Out will consist of BPD personnel WHO ARE ALREADY NOT SUBJECT TO CALL. Teams comprise non-patrol uniformed officers and investigators from BPD’s Patrol, Special Operation, and Detective Bureaus.

BPD will use crime data from the last 24 hours in the City of Birmingham to determine where BPD leadership deploys resources daily to combat crime trends and provide visibility to the public in popular business districts.

BPD’s Real Time Crime Center and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Metro Area Crime Center will provide real-time intelligence to personnel in the field.

What can the public do to assist?

Community members are encouraged to report any criminal activity they observe to BPD at (205) 328-9311 and emergencies to 911. They should also continue following BPD’s social media platforms for updates on crime trends during the holiday season.
