Arrests Made in the Homicide Investigation of Charlie Moore
The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives have obtained a warrant for two arrests in connection to the murder of Charlie Moore. He was shot and killed on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, in the 3100 Block of 43rd Avenue North.
The suspects have been identified as:
- Damien McDaniel, (22), B/M, of Bessemer, Alabama.
- Hatarius Woods, (27), B/M, of Fairfield, Alabama.
Birmingham Police Homicide detectives presented case information to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. After the assessment of case information, detectives obtained arrest warrants for Capital Murder (Burglary) on McDaniel and Woods.
Both suspects are in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail with No Bond.

Homicide Investigation: BPD Officer Fires Shots at Armed Homicide Suspect

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Tuesday, August 13, 2024.
The victim has been identified as:
Charlie Moore, (61), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.
At around 8:20 p.m., BPD Real Time Crime Center Specialists alerted North Precinct officers they observed a stolen vehicle in the North Birmingham Homes Housing Community commonly referred to as Vice Hills.
Officers arrived on the scene and observed the stolen vehicle in the 3100 Block of 43rd Avenue North.
Officers then heard shots coming from an apartment nearby. A North Precinct officer observed an armed suspect exit the apartment; our officer confronted the armed suspect and during the confrontation, our officer fired shots at the armed suspect.
The suspect entered the passenger side of the stolen vehicle and the occupants then fled the area. North Precinct officers pursued the stolen vehicle until the occupants abandoned the vehicle in the 4100 Block of Fairmont Place.
During the pursuit, additional North Precinct officers responded to the apartment where shots were fired. Officers entered the apartment when they observed the victim lying unresponsive suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived and pronounced the victim deceased.
Currently, officers have not located any suspects. Also, we are UNSURE if our officer’s shots struck the armed homicide suspect.
