3-Year-Old Shot in West Birmingham
The Birmingham Police Department reports a shooting investigation is underway after a three-year-old boy was shot at the Forrest Hills Village apartment complex. The incident occurred on Sunday, December 1, 2024.
At around 7:50 a.m., West Precinct officers were dispatched to a Child Shot call at the Forrest Hills Village Apartment complex in the 2600 Block of Tempest Drive Southwest.
Officers arrived on the scene when they entered an apartment and then discovered a three-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived and transported the child to Children’s Hospital. He has non-life-threatening injuries.
Responding officers observed an adult male in the parking lot running from the scene. Officers pursued the male on foot and then took him into custody. Officers took a second adult male into custody at the apartment complex. Patrol officers recovered a firearm from the parking lot where they first observed the two males.
The preliminary investigation revealed family members stated to officers they heard shots fired from outside the apartment and then discovered the 3-year-old child had been shot. The victim was in a bedroom. The bedroom’s wall was damaged by gunfire.
Patrol officers will transport both suspects to BPD Headquarters, where Felony Assault detectives will interview them.
