Arrest Made in the Douglas Youngblood Jr. Homicide Investigation
The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives have obtained a warrant for an arrest in connection to the murder of Douglas Youngblood Jr. He was shot and killed on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, in the 5500 Block of 1st Avenue South.
The suspect has been identified as:
Brandon Davis, (20), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.
The Birmingham Police Department’s Real Time Crime Center assisted officers and detectives in this investigation. BPD Homicide detectives were able identify Davis as a suspect. The investigation revealed Davis was traveling inside the same vehicle as Youngblood when Youngblood was shot.
On Tuesday December 3, 2024, Brandon Davis was in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail on unrelated charges. BPD Homicide detectives brought Davis to BPD Headquarters for an interview. Birmingham Police Homicide detectives then presented case information to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. After the assessment of case information, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Reckless Manslaughter ($30,000 Bond) on Brandon Davis.
Brandon Davis is in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail and has a total bond amount of $40,000.

Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Wednesday, May 15, 2024.
The victim has been identified as:
Douglas Fitzgerald Youngblood Jr., (29), B/M, of Fairfield, Alabama.
At approximately 11:57 p.m., East Precinct officers responded to a ShotSpotter notification of approximately four gunshots fired in the 5500 Block of 1st Avenue S. While en route, the call was updated to a Person Shot.
When officers arrived on the scene, they observed the victim lying in the middle of the roadway unresponsive, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue Services arrived on the scene and transported the victim to UAB Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
On Thursday, May 16, 2024, at approximately 2:15 a.m., the victim was pronounced deceased by UAB Hospital personnel.
The preliminary investigation suggests a motorist passing the location, observed the victim lying in the roadway near his crashed vehicle, and call 911 Emergency Services.
The details of this investigation are limited.
