BPD Detectives Arrest Suspect in Shooting that Injured 18-Month-Old Girl 

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives have obtained warrants for an arrest in connection to the shooting of an 18-month-old girl. She was shot on Sunday, November 17, 2024, in the 4800 Block of 8th Avenue Wylam while she was in a vehicle.

The suspect has been identified as:

Alex Dubose, (21), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama. 

BPD Felony Assault detectives investigated this case and identified Alex Dubose as a suspect. Detectives believed he was shooting at an adult family member of the victim who was in the vehicle with the victim.

Birmingham Police detectives presented case information to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. After the assessment of case information, detectives obtained arrest warrants for Attempted Murder, Assault 2nd Degree, and Discharging into an Occupied Vehicle X’s 2 on Alex Dubose.

On Tuesday, December 3, 2024, BPD’s Crime Reduction Team arrested Dubose at a residence in Birmingham.

Alex Dubose is in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail and he has a $135,000 Bond.

18-Month-Old Girl Shot in West Birmingham

At around 6:45 p.m., South Precinct officers were dispatched to Children’s Hospital on report of a Child Shot call.

Officers arrived at Children’s Hospital when they learned an 18-month-old baby girl had been shot inside a vehicle in the Wylam neighborhood. The victim was rushed to Children’s Hospital by private vehicle. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers learned an adult male also had been shot in the same incident. He arrived at UAB Hospital by ambulance. The victims were traveling in separate vehicles.

The preliminary investigation has revealed this incident is believed to have taken place at the 5-Way service station at 4800 8th Avenue Wylam.

An adult male fired shots at the vehicle the 18-month-old victim was traveling in. Officers believe an adult who was traveling with the 18-month-old was the intended target.

Currently, it appears the adult gunshot victim was not an intended target.

There is no one in custody.
