Homicide Investigation
The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Wednesday, December 18, 2024.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office is working to identify the victim.
At around 7:25 p.m., South Precinct officers were dispatched to a Shot Spotter alert in the 200 Block of 3rd Avenue South.
Officers arrived on the scene and then observed an adult male lying unresponsive in a yard of a house. The victim had been shot.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived and pronounced the victim deceased.
The preliminary investigation suggests the victim and a group of people were at a house in the 200 Block of 3rd Avenue South when the victim got into an argument with a separate adult male. The suspect shot the victim and then fled the area on foot.
There is no one in custody.
