BPD Felony Assault Detectives Arrest Suspect in Shooting that Injured Three, Including Two Children
The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives have obtained arrest warrants on a suspect in connection to an October shooting that injured three victims, including two children.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, in the 1400 Block of 3rd Avenue West.
Incident
At around 8:15 p.m., West Precinct officers responded to a report of multiple people shot.
Officers arrived on the scene and then observed a seven-year-old boy, a nine-year-old boy, and an adult male injured by gunfire.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue arrived and transported the children to Children’s Hospital and the adult victim to UAB Hospital. The seven-year-old child suffered serious injuries in the shooting; the other two victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The preliminary investigation revealed the victims were traveling in a vehicle being driven by an adult female when a suspect shot into their vehicle.
We believe the suspect targeted the adult male victim.
Arrest
BPD Felony Assault detectives investigated this incident; they identified a suspect in the shooting.
Suspect information:
Jar’Darrius Julius, (26), B/M, of Bessemer, Alabama.
On Wednesday, December 18, 2024, BPD’s Special Enforcement Division’s Crime Reduction Team took Julius into custody at a house in Bessemer, Alabama.
On Friday, December 20, 2024, Birmingham Police Homicide detectives presented case information to the Jefferson County Magistrate’s Office. The Jefferson County Magistrate’s Office issued warrants for Attempted Murder, Assault 1st Degree X’s 2, and Discharging a Firearm into an Occupied Vehicle on Julius.
Jar’Darrius Julius is in the Jefferson County Jail’s custody and has a $150,000 Bond.
