The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on December 6, 2021.
The victim has been identified as Jona McKenzie, (31), W/F, of Birmingham, Alabama.
At approximately 5:00 p.m., South Precinct Offices responded to a ShotSpotter alert of one shot fired at 860 44th Street North. Upon arrival officers observed the victim Jona McKenzie laying on the sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and transported McKenzie to UAB Hospital where she succumbs to her injuries.
Information is limited pertaining to details surrounding this incident. No arrest has been made.
