Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports that detectives are conducting a homicide investigation.  The incident occurred on Thursday, February 6, 2020, at approximately 4:00 p.m.

The victim’s identity will be released upon notification of next of kin.

 Officers from the West Precinct responded to a call of a person shot in the 2300 block of 27th Street Ensley. Upon arrival officers located the victim lying on the walkway unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue reported to the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

Officers received information that a suspect approached the victim and an argument ensued. Shortly after the argument began the victim was shot. The suspect fled the scene on foot shortly after the shooting. There are no suspect(s) in custody. This is an ongoing investigation. Additional details will be provided as they become available.

This is Birmingham’s 10th homicide investigation of 2020 and 2 justifiable death investigations. The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations into the total homicide investigations counts.
