Media Release 31- Homicide Investigation- 9th Avenue West

Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation after three victims were shot. The incident occurred on Tuesday, January 31, 2022.

The victim has been identified as:

Corieonna Shantrice Hines, (24), B/F, of Birmingham, Alabama.

At around 10:20 PM, North Precinct officers were dispatched to the 100 Block of 9th Avenue West on report of multiple people shot.

Officers arrived on the scene when they entered an apartment and discovered the victim lying unresponsive suffering an apparent gunshot wound.

Officers also observed a 13-year-old female juvenile along with a 7-year-old female juvenile suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue (BFR) personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased. BFR transported the juvenile victims to a local area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The preliminary investigation suggests an adult male suspect entered the apartment and began firing shots at the victim.

We believe the victim and the suspect at one time were in a romantic relationship.

The suspect is not in custody.

FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations in the total homicide investigations counts.
