Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports that detectives are conducting a homicide investigation.  The deceased was discovered on Thursday, February 6, 2020, at approximately 12:36 p.m.

The victim’s identity will be released upon notification of next of kin.

 Officers from the North Precinct responded to a call of a person down at 2300 5th Avenue North. Upon arrival officers located the deceased lying in the bedroom area of the apartment. Birmingham Fire and Rescue reported to the scene along with the Jefferson County Coroner and pronounced the victim deceased. Investigators believe the deceased may have been in the apartment for an extended period of time.

After further investigation by the coroner’s office, it was determined that the deceased had suffered a stab wound. Upon receiving the information the investigation was classified as a homicide. There are no suspect(s) in custody. This is an ongoing investigation. Additional details will be provided as they become available.

This is Birmingham’s 11th homicide investigation of 2020 and 2 justifiable death investigations. The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations into the total homicide investigations counts.
