Homicide Investigation Update

The Birmingham Police Department reports that detectives have received a ruling in connection with a homicide investigation. The victim was discovered on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at approximately 6:45 p.m.

The victim has been identified as:
Kim Paul Walker, W/M, 63 of Birmingham, Alabama.

Officers from the South Precinct responded to 951 18th Street South to perform a welfare check on the victim due to concerns of the victim’s well-being by co-workers. Upon arrival officers located the victim unresponsive inside his apartment. Birmingham Fire & Rescue along with the Jefferson County Coroner arrived and pronounced the victim deceased on the scene.

Investigators learned that the victim was involved in an altercation on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at approximately 2:00 a.m. The victim suffered a head wound as he assisted co-workers in escorting unruly patrons from a bar.

BPD Homicide Investigators presented the information gathered on the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office for review. Following the assessment of the information, the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office ruled the actions of the identified subject involved were not willfully and knowingly to injure the victim. There will be no criminal charges to follow.
