Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports that detectives are conducting a homicide investigation. The deceased was discovered on Tuesday March 3, 2020 at approximately 9:55 p.m.

The identity of the victim will be released upon notification of next of kin.

 Officers from South Precinct responded to a shot spotter call of four rounds fired in the 963 47th Street North. Officers arrived and discovered the victim unresponsive on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue and Jefferson County Coroner arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

Details are very limited in this investigation. There are no suspect(s) in custody. A motive has not been established in this homicide investigation. This is an ongoing investigation and additional details will be provided as they come available.

 This is Birmingham’s 14th homicide investigation of 2020 and 4 justifiable death investigations. The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations into the total homicide investigations counts.
