BPD Detectives Make Arrest in the Earnest Christion Jr. Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives have obtained arrest warrants for two suspects in connection to the murder of Earnest Christion Jr. He was fatally stabbed on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, in the 2500 Block of 15th Street Ensley.

Suspects information:

  1. Zingy Gamble, (60), B/F, of Birmingham, Alabama.
  2. La Verne Gamble, (40), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

BPD Homicide detectives investigated this case. Detectives identified both suspects through the help of community members.

Earnest Christion was Zingy Gamble’s boyfriend. BPD detectives believe Zingy stabbed Earnest, possibly during a dispute over money. Zingy and La Verne are mother/son.

Birmingham Police Homicide detectives presented case information to the Jefferson County Magistrate’s Office. The Jefferson County Magistrate’s Office issued a warrant for Murder on Zingy Gamble and a warrant for Hindering Prosecution 1st Degree on La Verne Gamble.

BPD Homicide detectives arrested both suspects at BPD Headquarters.

Both suspects are in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail. Zingy Gamble has No Bond. La Verne Gamble has a $15,000 Bond.

Homicide Investigation

(Media Release 283-2024)

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Tuesday, December 31, 2024.

 Victim information:

Earnest Christion Jr., (68), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

Shortly after 7 p.m., West Precinct officers were dispatched to a Person Stabbed call at a residence in the 2500 Block of 15th Street Ensley.

Officers arrived on the scene and then entered a residence when they observed an adult male unresponsive suffering from what our officers believed to be a stab wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived and transported the victim to UAB Hospital. UAB Hospital pronounced the victim deceased.

Details are limited in this investigation.

There is no one in custody.
