Public’s Assistance in the Javarius Reid Homicide Investigation

Detectives request assistance from the public in obtaining information on a homicide which occurred on Friday, January 28, 2022 claiming the life of 17-year-old Javarius Reid.

At approximately 11:40 p.m., North Precinct officers were dispatched to the 2900 block of 16th Street North on report of shots fired. Officers arrived on the scene and observed multiple spent shell casings in the roadway.

While on the scene, officers learned a victim was transported to UAB Hospital via private vehicle. Shortly after the victim’s arrival, UAB Hospital staff pronounced the victim deceased.

The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was travelling inside of a vehicle in the 2900 block of 16th Street North when shots were fired in the area. The victim was fatally wounded by gunfire while he was inside of a vehicle; he was an innocent bystander.

Currently, there is no suspect(s) in custody.

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Friday, January 28, 2022.

The victim has been identified as:

Javarius Reid, (17), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

At approximately 11:40 p.m., North Precinct officers were dispatched to the 2900 block of 16th Street North on report of shots fired. Officers arrived on the scene and observed multiple spent shell casings in the roadway.

Currently, there is no suspect(s) in custody.
