Media Release 77- Homicide Investigation- Avenue D

Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Friday, April 15, 2022.

The victim has been identified as:

Mickey Collins, (25), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

At approximately 3:55 AM, West Precinct officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of Avenue D on report of a person shot. Officers arrived on the scene and observed the victim lying unresponsive inside of a vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

Officers observed numerous spent shell casings in the roadway.

Currently, there is no one in custody. Details are limited in this investigation.

This is Birmingham’s 35th murder investigation of 2022 including 2 justifiable death investigations.

FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations into the total homicide investigations counts.
