Media Release 9- Slayden Avenue

Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Friday, January 7, 2022.

The victim has been identified as Kenneth Kennard, (57), b/m of Bessemer, Alabama.

At approximately 11:10 a.m., West Precinct officers were dispatched to the intersection of Slayden Avenue @ Birmingport Road.

The preliminary investigation suggests a passerby called police stating they observed what appeared to be a burned body near the roadway on Slayden Avenue.

Officers arrived on the scene and traveled to the 2800 block of Slayden Avenue where they observed a body burned beyond recognition off of the roadway. Officers observed signs on the scene that would lead us to believe this is a homicide investigation.

Currently, there is no suspect(s) in custody.

This is Birmingham’s 5th murder investigation of 2022.
