Officer Involved Shooting Investigation
The Birmingham Police Department reports an officer involved shooting investigation is underway. The incident occurred on Sunday, May 8, 2022.
Just before 4:00 p.m., officers from the South Precinct responded to the 3600 block of Clairmont Avenue on a domestic violence call of a woman assaulted by her boyfriend. Officers also received information that the suspect was armed with a gun. Responding officers were provided with a description of the suspect. While canvassing the area, an officer located the suspect in the 2500 block of 7th Avenue South. During the interaction with the armed suspect, the officer discharged his firearm wounding the suspect. The suspect’s firearm was recovered at the scene. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel transported the suspect to a local area hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg.
The Alabama State Bureau of Investigation will be the lead investigative agency in this Officer Involved Shooting Investigation.
